Lithuania plans to strengthen its border with the Russian Federation by deploying a park of engineering means, reports LRT.

Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė will visit Klaipėda to discuss border security measures. During her visit, she will inspect units of the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service, including the newly established Coastal Guard unit. The security of strategic objects will also be assessed.

Currently, the entire state border with Russia is monitored using surveillance systems, even in areas without physical barriers, according to the Lithuanian Ministry of Internal Affairs. Border protection is carried out by two State Border Guard Service units: the Pagėgiai Border Guard Detachment and the Coastal Guard unit. This year, an additional 30 positions for surveillance system operators have been created to enhance border control capabilities.

Plans include deploying a park of engineering means to prevent potential enemy movements, continuing repairs and installation of patrol routes, upgrading border surveillance systems, developing drones and counter-drone measures, and strengthening cooperation with the Lithuanian Armed Forces through joint exercises.

The length of the state border with the Kaliningrad region of Russia is 297 kilometers.
