A treasure dating back to the Crimean Khanate era was discovered near Odessa. It consisted of 140 silver coins minted in the 1480s, hidden in a small jug and buried at a depth of 40 cm.

In the Podilskyi district of the Odessa region, historian and member of the Odessa Regional Studies Society, Serhiy Zhosan, discovered the "Flora Treasure" - silver coins from the times of the Crimean Khanate.

This unique find was made by the scholar on April 22 in a ravine near the village of Flora in the Oknyanska united territorial community.

The discovery consists of 140 silver coins (akche). They were minted in Crimea in the 1480s during the reign of Khan Mengli Giray I.

"Most likely, the treasure was hidden during the raids of the Crimean Tatars in Podillia. The treasure was lying in a pot, buried at a depth of 40 cm. It was covered with a square limestone slab of natural origin, approximately 20 by 20 by 5 cm. The ravine where the treasure was found empties into the Yagorlyk River," the researcher reported.

First, the discovery will be thoroughly studied and described, and then it will be handed over to the Podilskyi City Local Lore Museum in the Odessa region.

"This is not the first, and I am sure, not the last treasure found in our charming Oknyanshchyna. In August 2019, two kilometers south of the village of Illya, a treasure of ancient coins from the mid-17th century was found," Zhosan said.

It is worth noting that in Crimea, from the mid-13th century until the loss of independence in the 1780s, there were several mints. Over the entire period of minting, nearly 25 denominations of currency were changed.
