By Ludmila Denisova, Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights

As on April 24, 2022, according to the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations and other sources that need confirmation, 213 children (+5 per day) have died and 389 children (+2 per day) have been injured since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began.

It is impossible to establish the actual number of dead and wounded children due to the fact that the occupying forces are actively fighting in Ukrainian cities.

Yesterday, a mother with a 3-month-old child died as a result of shelling by the aggressor country of a residential district of Odessa.

Yesterday, near the village of Novokyivka, Snihurivskyi district, Mykolaiv region, a 9-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl received mine injuries and shrapnel wounds as a result of a mine detonation.

On April 23, it became known about the death of two girls - young actresses of the Donetsk Regional Drama Theater. The children died due to the shelling of the city of Mariupol by the russian troops.

The day before, a 17-year-old boy died as a result of shelling of civil infrastructure facilities in the village of Kamyanske, Vasylivka district, Zaporizhia region.

During the recording of criminal offenses committed in the Bucha district of Kyiv region by the occupiers, law enforcement agencies found the body of a 16-year-old boy with shrapnel wounds.

Such actions of the russian occupation forces are a direct violation of the Hague and Geneva Conventions. The aggressor continues to defiantly violate the fundamental rights of children - the right to life and health, guaranteed to every child in the world by the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

I appeal to the UN Commission for Investigation Human Rights Violations during Russia's Military Invasion of Ukraine to take into account these violations of children rights in Ukraine by Russia.
