The General Consul of the Republic of Poland in Odessa, Mrs. Katarzyna Solek, visited Belgorod-Dniestrovsk


On July 7, 2020, the leadership of the of Belgorod-Dniestrovsk city, headed by the Secretary of the City Council Viktor Grozov, met with the General Consul of the Republic of Poland in Odessa, Mrs. Katarzyna Solek. The event was also attended by the chairman of the NGO "Center of Polish Culture Akkerman" in Odessa region Serhiy Kvitkovsky and his deputy - Honorary Citizen of Belgorod-Dniestrovskiy Valery Tsurkan, chairman of the NGO "Society of the Polish Language and Culture "Adam Mickiewicz" Eugene Nikitchenko, as well as the head of the religious community of the Roman Catholic Church of St. Margaret of Antioch Alexander Vyontsek.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the prospects of establishing of an international cooperation, in particular, in such areas as education, culture, art, tourism development and other areas. According to Viktor Grozov, this year the city council planned to make several visits of creative teams of the city of Belgorod-Dniestrovsiy to the Republic of Poland, but due to certain restrictions caused by quarantine the planned visits had to be postponed.

With the suggestion of Mrs. Katarzyna Solek, the parties agreed to perpetuate in the city of Belgorod-Dniestrovskiy the memory of one of the most prominent Polish poets, a national liberation movement activist Adam Mickiewicz who visited the city in 1825. It was during his trip to the Akkermann where the artist came up with the idea of ​​writing the sonnet "Akkerman Steppes".

In turn, Viktor Grozov noted that a memorial sign in honor of Adam Mickiewicz could be installed on the territory of the park, which is located behind the cinema complex "Atmosphere".

After the meeting, Victor Grozov and Mrs. Katarzyna Solek walked through the streets of the ancient city of Belgorod-Dniestrovskiy and visited the park, where in the future a memorial to one of the most prominent Polish poets Adam Mickiewicz will be installed.
