Bakhmut is the only direction in which Russian troops can now implement barrage tactics, the observer noted.

The Ukrainian city of Bakhmut in the Donetsk region is becoming the most saturated area in terms of the number of artillery of Russian troops in the entire combat zone.

This was told by the military-political observer of the Information Resistance group Alexander Kovalenko; around Bakhmut, Russian troops use artillery of 152-mm self-propelled guns "Msta-S" with self-propelled guns, MLRS "Hurricane", 152-mm self-propelled guns "Hyacinth- C", 240-mm "Tulip". In addition, according to his information, units of the 31st Airborne Brigade and the 76th Airborne Division arrived in the area and, respectively, 2S9 and 2S9M 120-mm self-propelled guns "Nona-S" appeared.

“There is one very significant “BUT” in this whole story with saturation. Of course, you can bring 100,500 barrels, but can you provide these barrels with ammunition to fire 100,500 shots?

Bakhmut is the only direction in which Russian troops can now implement the barrage tactics. But, they do not implement it 24/7, but with pauses. The shelling is undulating and not constant. That is, the firing shaft is not fully provided, and the barrels are idle," Kovalenko said.

According to him, saturation with artillery and its inefficient use leads to the fact that the Armed Forces of Ukraine "grind" it even more efficiently. As a result, as the expert added, Bakhmut is now not only pulling the enemy’s manpower, fettering him, but also solving at least four tasks:

  • concentrates a significant part of the artillery in one location, minimizing its presence in other areas;
  • continues the depletion of Russian ammunition for cannon and rocket artillery;
  • locally increases the wear of barrels of all types and calibers of Russian artillery;
  • allows localized destruction of Russian artillery concentrated in the targeted and fired zone.
