Genichesk is well positioned to coordinate against potential Ukrainian threats from the city of Kherson in the west, or through Melitopol from the northeast.

Russia has moved its military command to the occupied city of Henichesk because it is now out of range of Ukrainian artillery.

This is reported by the British Ministry of Defense with reference to intelligence data on Twitter.

"With the abandonment of the city of Kherson, Russia has made the city of Henichesk on the Sea of Azov the 'temporary capital of the occupied region. Russia is also expected to redeploy military command units to the Henichesk region," the British report said.

In particular, by November 12, the Russian army had almost certainly completed the withdrawal of forces which had been holding the West Bank of the Dnieper River in the Kherson region.

"The choice of this area as a command node hints at the priorities and concerns of the Russian command as they consolidate their defenses in southern Ukraine," British intelligence officials say.

In particular, Genichesk is well positioned to coordinate against potential Ukrainian threats from both Kherson city in the west, or via Melitopol from the north-east, and to receive reinforcements from occupied Crimea.

“First of all, now this city is out of reach of Ukrainian artillery systems, which have inflicted heavy damage to Russian field command posts,” the report says.
