Cheap Russian gas is a lie: the mayor of Budapest said that Orban is leading the country into the abyss

The Orban government is not only putting the country on the wrong side of history but also putting it on the side that lost. The fact that it cannot distinguish the aggressor from the victim is morally unjustified and economically harmful.

Cheap Russian gas is a huge scam, and the country's government under Viktor Orban is leading Hungary to a loss by being on the wrong side of history.

This was stated on his Facebook page by the mayor of Budapest, Gergely Karacsony, who is in opposition to the government of Viktor Orban.

"Cheap Russian gas is a huge scam. But very expensive Russian gas! What happened many times in Hungarian history is happening again: the government not only puts the country on the wrong side of history but also puts it on the side that lost. The fact that it cannot distinguish between the aggressor and the victim is not only - although this would be enough - morally unjustified but also economically harmful. Because cheap Russian gas is a lie," the mayor of the Hungarian capital said.

If cheap Russian gas existed, he said, Hungarians wouldn't have to pay incredibly high utility bills.

“From this it is now clear that Putin is giving gas to Hungary at a very high price, and our increased utility bills only enrich Putin. In fact, the discount on utilities was cut on a long-term gas purchase contract concluded last summer, which has nothing to do with neither to war nor to sanctions, which in no way related to the gas trade. Therefore, we get nothing for the irresponsible policies that the government is pursuing. We must get out of Putin's shadow, move from fossil energy to renewable energy, choose energy independence instead of energy dependence," Gergely Karacsony expressed his conviction.

In Hungary on Friday began the "national consultations" on sanctions against Russia, which Viktor Orban demands to be revised.
