The candidate for the Olympic Games Andriy Yagodka turned out to be the strongest among 43 participants. Now, he will compete for an Olympic license as part of the European selection for the 2020 Games.


This is the last start of the Odessa fencer before the European licensed selection for the 2020 Games in Tokyo, which will take place in Madrid on April 24-25.

In the team tournament, the men's national team of Odessa region, accompanied by Andriy Yagodka, was made up of juniors Ivan Gaisin (14th place in the individual tournament), Timur Terzi (21) and Maksym Semenov (19), won bronze medals, and the women's team with experienced masters the blade was fenced by the participant of the recent world championship among cadets Valeria Morynets-Kubanska, and Anna Sulatska, became the fourth.

An now Odessa saber player, Honoured Master of Sports Andriy Yagodka will compete for an Olympic license as part of the European selection for the 2020 Games, which will take place in Madrid on April 24-25.

Andrew, who participated in the 2016 Olympic Games, will compete for a single Olympic ticket. As of April 20, 17 athletes applied for the saber competition, among which Odesa is the third in the world ranking (62nd place). According to the regulations, participants must first fencing in groups, then the main grid.

Now, the Odessa athlete with his coach Alexander Krasovsky is at a training camp at the Olympic base in Koncha Zaspa. The national team of Ukraine will fly to Madrid on April 22.

It is worth noting that Andriy Yagodka already has a successful experience of participation in the continental selection, in 2016. Then he entered the top four at the tournament, which took place in Prague, and it brought him an Olympic license.

To date, four athletes from Odessa region have won the right to perform at the 2020 Olympic Games: Irina Malovichenko (bench shooting), Anastasia Lysenko (weightlifting), Anzhelika Terluga (karate) and Anastasia Todorova (rowing).
