In the Reni district, farmers uproot vineyards and plant ... bananas

In the Reni district, farmers are preparing to uproot perennial vineyards and preparing fields for arable land, and in some farms experimenting with tropical plants.

Nikola Getsoi, the farmer from Plavni village that due to adverse weather conditions and negative trends in the market for industrial grapes, he had to draw up acts to uproot perennial plantings and prepare a field for arable land.

Vine growers say that viticulture is becoming unprofitable in Bessarabia, since increased drought forces them to think about organizing drip irrigation of fields, which increases the cost of grapes. But on the other hand, having received a good harvest, vine growers cannot sell it. The trade war between Ukraine and Russia led to the blocking of the Russian market for Ukrainian vine growers and winemakers. At the same time, the market of the European Union is virtually closed to Ukrainian grapes and wine products.

Bessarabian farmers complain that the state does not protect the Ukrainian producer, but only opened the Ukrainian market for Republic of Moldova, Chile and the EU products.

There is global warming, the climate is changing. I have been growing figs for a long time, I have already planted pomegranate, kiwi and persimmon. Doing experiments with bananas

stated Renian farmer Kostyantin Majar

Agrarians of the Reni district began to experiment and decided to replace the grape fields with plantations of bananas, figs, pomegranates, persimmons and kiwi.
