EcoRoute is a permanent ecological project that allows Odessa residents to send waste for recycling. During the existence of the EcoRoute since 2018, the project team conducted 33 EcoRoute, 13 of them in 2020. To do this, they rent a cargo minibus once a month and make stops in the main squares of the city, a total of 10-15 locations in one day.

The purpose of the project is to provide an opportunity to send waste for recycling to as many residents of Odessa as possible.

For the funds received from the delivery of waste, they cover the costs of the EcoRoute. At the same time, the EcoRoute team need to raise funds to increase the number of locations and the frequency of EcoRoutes, as each new location brings greater financial losses that they cannot cover on their own.

Now the team spend about UAH 2,000. Of this amount, they cover up to 75% through the delivery of sorted waste, the rest - through charitable donations.

This year, 12,000 Eco-conscious people joined the community, and together with them the project collected 14 tons of recyclables. These figures show that the project is relevant for Odessa. Here are the categories of waste:

• ♻ Other metals as well as clean plastic bags

Despite good results, there are still many people who cannot join the EcoRoute due to their geographical location. Every month the team received messages from people from such districts as Slobodka, Moldovanka, Kotovsky District with a request to expand the EcoRoute and frequency. After all, there are almost no alternatives for separate waste collection in these areas and all their plastic, glass and paper are doomed to end up in common landfills.

In 2021, the EcoRoute team plan to cover 24 locations throughout the city, at each of which the EcoRoute will take place once every 2 weeks, instead of once a month as before. This will allow to send more than 5,000 kg of waste per month for recycling! All the waste are send to the ecological enterprise "Vtorma", from which they get to processing enterprises all over Ukraine.
