The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy (MKIP) continues to document the damage to cultural heritage sites in Ukraine as a result of Russian aggression. From February 24, 2022, to January 25, 2024, Russia destroyed or damaged 902 cultural heritage sites. Among them are 124 sites of national significance, 708 of local significance, and 70 recently discovered sites.

Specifically, the affected sites include 285 architectural objects, 269 architectural and urban planning objects, 213 historical objects, 33 architectural and historical objects, 19 monumental art objects, 17 urban planning and monumental art objects, 18 archaeological objects, 38 architectural, urban planning, and historical objects, 5 urban planning objects, 2 science and technology objects, 1 garden and park art object, 1 architectural and monumental art object, and 1 architectural and monumental art object.

Cultural heritage sites have been damaged or destroyed in 17 regions:

  • Kharkiv region – 234 damaged or destroyed cultural heritage sites (Bogodukhivsky district – 5; Izyum – 14; Krasnograd – 2; Lozovsky – 1; Kharkiv – 197; Chuhuiv – 15). Among them are 10 of national significance, 220 of local significance, and 4 recently discovered cultural heritage objects.

  • Odesa region– 119 (Bilhorod-Dnistrovsk district – 1; Odessa – 117, Izmail – 1). Among them are 28 of national significance and 91 of local significance.

  • Donetsk Region - 117 (Kramatorskyi district - 42; Mariupol - 26; Bakhmut - 28, Pokrovsk - 17; Volnovakha - 4). Including 15 of national significance and 102 of local significance.

  • Kherson Region - 88 (Berislavs district - 12; Bilozersk - 2; Kakhovka - 32; Kherson - 42). Including 13 of national significance, 45 of local significance, and 30 recently discovered cultural heritage objects.

  • Chernihiv Region - 70 (Chernihivskyi district - 63; Koriukivi - 1; Novhorod-Siversk - 2; Nizhynskyi - 3; Prylutskyi - 1). Including 27 of national significance, 37 of local significance, and 6 recently discovered cultural heritage objects.

  • Kyiv Region - 69 (Bilotserkivskyi district - 1; Brovary district - 5; Bucha district - 14; Vyshhorod district - 6, Kyiv city - 43). Including 16 of national significance, 37 of local significance, and 16 recently discovered cultural heritage objects.

  • Zaporizhzhia Region - 38 sites of local significance (Vasylivsk district - 12; Zaporizhzhia city - 15; Pology - 10; Melitopolskyi - 1).

  • Lviv Region - 35 (Zolochivskyi district - 1; Stryi - 1; Lviv - 33). Including 2 of national significance and 31 of local significance.

  • Dnipropetrovsk Region - 34 (Dniprovskyi district - 15; Kryvyi Rih - 4; Nikopol - 14; Pavlohrad - 1). Including 1 of national significance, 27 of local significance, and 6 recently discovered cultural heritage objects.

  • Luhansk Region - 30 sites of local significance (Svatovo district - 5; Sievierodonetsk - 23, Shchaste - 2).

  • Sumy Region - 25 (Konotop district - 5; Okhtyrskyi - 12; Sumy - 7; Shostka - 1). Including 5 of national significance and 20 of local significance.

  • Mykolaiv Region - 22 (Mykolaiv district - 22). Including 3 of national significance, 15 of local significance, and 4 recently discovered cultural heritage objects.

  • Khmelnytskyi Region - 10 (Shepetivka district - 2; Khmelnytskyi - 8). Including 1 of national significance, 6 of local significance, and 3 recently discovered cultural heritage objects.

  • Vinnytsia Region - 4 (Vinnytsia district - 4). Including 1 of national significance and 3 of local significance.

  • Poltava Region - 4 (Kremenchuk district - 4). Including 1 of national significance, 2 of local significance, and 1 recently discovered cultural heritage object.

  • Zhytomyr Region - 2 (Korosten district - 2). Including 1 of national significance and 1 of local significance.

  • Kirovohrad Region - 1 (Oleksandriia district - 1). 1 of local significance.
