A Finnish volunteer medic with the call sign Sipa has died in combat in eastern Ukraine.
This was reported by Yle.
The death was confirmed by the organization Your Finnish Friends, which supports volunteers. According to their information, the deceased served as a medic in the 1st Infantry Platoon of the Ukrainian Foreign Legion, marking the sixth Finnish volunteer to die in the war in Ukraine.
His name has not been disclosed, and he is known only by his call sign, Sipa.
"Sipa gave up all his belongings to come to Ukraine and defend it, despite strong opposition from his mother. Sipa had a goal, and he did not waver from it," the organization wrote about the fallen volunteer on social media platform X.
According to Yle, in February, the head of the consular department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jussi Tanner, estimated that around 20–30 Finns were serving on the front lines in Ukraine.
