A new industrial region is emerging in Ukraine — in Zakarpattia, where numerous enterprises are being opened and significant power generation capacity is under construction.
This was stated by the head of the Verkhovna Rada’s Energy Committee, Andrii Herus.
“In my opinion, a new industrial region is now taking shape in Ukraine — Zakarpattia. The number of technical specifications issued for connecting enterprises there is truly impressive. And as far as I know, the regional power distribution company is issuing these permits appropriately, and there are no complaints,” Herus said during Energy Day 2025, organized by the European Business Association in Kyiv.
According to him, a large number of power generation facilities of various types — solar, wind, and gas — are also being built in the region, as evidenced by the issued technical connection permits.
“Zakarpattia is showing very strong momentum. The only difference is that there won't be any Soviet-style gigantomania, where three large enterprises would define an entire region or city. Instead, dozens and dozens of small enterprises are opening in Zakarpattia. And in a few years, we will see a significant difference compared to what the region was like five years ago,” the Energy Committee head added.
