On the night of September 17 (from 6:00 p.m. on September 16), the Russian forces launched an attack using an Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missile and an S-300 surface-to-air guided missile from the Rostov and Kursk regions, as well as 172 strike drones of the Shahed, Gerbera, and other types from the directions of Kursk, Bryansk, Oryol, Millerovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk (Russia), and Chauda (occupied Crimea) — over 100 of them being Shaheds.

The air assault was countered by aviation, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare units, drone systems, and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

According to preliminary data as of 09:30, air defense systems shot down/suppressed 136 drones of the Shahed, Gerbera, and other types in the north, south, and east of the country.

Impacts of missiles and 36 strike drones were recorded at 13 locations.
