On the night of April 19, 2024, Russian forces launched a combined missile strike using various types of missiles and strike UAVs.
This was stated by the Commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Mykola Oleshchuk.
"In total, the enemy deployed 36 air attack assets - 22 missiles of various types and 14 strike UAVs," he emphasized.
• 2 cruise missiles X-101/X-555 from Tu-95MS strategic aircraft (launch area Ryazan - Russia);
• 14 Shahed-131/136 strike UAVs (from the areas of Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Kursk region - Russia);
• 12 guided aviation missiles X-59/X-69 (Kursk region and the Azov Sea waters);
• 2 Iskander-K cruise missiles (from Crimea);
• 6 Kh-22 cruise missiles from long-range strategic bombers Tu-22M3 (from the waters of the Black and Azov Seas).
Anti-aircraft missile troops of the Air Force, mobile fire groups, and electronic warfare units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine were engaged in repelling the Russian air attack.
As a result of the air battle, 29 air targets were destroyed:
• 2 cruise missiles X-101/X-555;
• 14 Shahed-131/136 strike UAVs;
• 11 guided aviation missiles X-59/X-69;
• 2 cruise missiles Kh-22.
For the first time, anti-aircraft missile units of the Air Force, in cooperation with the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, destroyed a long-range strategic bomber Tu-22M3 - a carrier of Kh-22 cruise missiles used by Russian forces to target peaceful Ukrainian cities.
"Ukraine needs more means, more missiles, to better defend the front-line territories from Russian terrorism," Oleshchuk emphasized.
