Albania is considering the possibility of importing beef, lamb, and processed products from Ukraine.

This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food following a meeting between Minister Vitaliy Koval and the Ambassador of the Republic of Albania to Ukraine, Ernal Philo.

According to the minister, this year Ukraine has shifted its state policy towards livestock farming and begun increasing production of cattle, red meat, and processed products, which has interested Albania, where demand for meat products has grown due to an increase in the number of tourists.

“Albania is interested in importing meat from Ukraine — cattle and lamb, as well as processed products. At the same time, they want to increase supplies of greenhouse vegetables to the Ukrainian market, especially during the period from February to May, when our own production decreases. To achieve this, certain trade procedures between the countries need to be simplified,” Koval noted.

The parties agreed at the level of ministries and embassies to discuss steps to strengthen cooperation in the agricultural sector.

The minister emphasized that, besides cooperation in the agricultural sphere, Ukraine and Albania have many points of contact. In particular, in both countries, the agricultural sector forms a significant share of GDP and provides employment for a substantial number of people.

Furthermore, both countries share a common goal — full integration into the European Union.

To activate cooperation, Koval proposed holding the inaugural meeting of the Ukrainian-Albanian Joint Commission this year.
