Ambassador Jonatan Vseviov: Europe's greatest weakness is lack of strategy, not resources

Europe's greatest vulnerability lies not in a lack of resources, but in the loss of its ability to independently formulate and implement its own geopolitical strategy — a capability European countries must urgently restore, particularly in the context of supporting Ukraine, Estonian Foreign Ministry Secretary General Jonatan Vseviov stated on X.

"Europe’s greatest weakness is not a lack of resources. It is that our ability to formulate and pursue a strategy of our own has atrophied," the Estonian diplomat wrote.

According to Vseviov, this situation has historical roots.

"Little wonder. Throughout the Cold War, Western Europe had little need to do so. Eastern Europe was not allowed to."

Vseviov emphasised that the continent must now urgently rediscover strategic thinking and take decisive practical action to defend the European security order.

"Time to relearn the art. And put it into practice. Above all, in Ukraine. Because what is decided there is not just Ukraine’s future. It is, to a great extent, Europe’s," the Estonian Foreign Ministry Secretary General stressed.
