The Ukrainian Football Association (UAF) has confirmed the registration of the former manager of the Ukrainian national team, Andriy Shevchenko, as a candidate for the position of the president of the organization.

The governing body of domestic football has reported the first candidate for the position of the head of the association. The candidate is the former forward of Kyiv's Dynamo, Italy's Milan, London's Chelsea, and the Ukrainian national team.
Shevchenko was nominated for the presidency of the UAF by 14 permanent members of the organization, including the Kyiv Association of Football Associations, the Donetsk Regional Football Association, the Odessa Regional Football Association, and others. To become a candidate for the presidency, it is sufficient to secure the support of nine permanent members of the UAF.
If elected, Shevchenko will become the sixth president in the history of the Football Federation of Ukraine/UAF. Previously, the leadership of Ukrainian football was held by Viktor Bannikov, Valeriy Pustovoytenko, Hryhoriy Surkis, Anatoliy Konkov, and Andriy Pavelko. The latter, in June, ended up in pre-trial detention on charges of embezzlement during the construction of a factory for the production of artificial turf for football fields.
The election of the association's president will take place in 2024. The point 'Election of the UAF President' has been included in the agenda of the extraordinary congress of the organization, scheduled for January 25 at the Football House in Kyiv.
Shevchenko, in his Facebook post, thanked the permanent members of the association for their initiative and stated that 'the development of football, the development of Ukrainian athletes, is an important and responsible task that requires attention.
