Andriy Yahodka takes silver in FIE Satellite event

Ukrainian sabre fencer Andriy Yahodka won the silver medal at the FIE Satellite series tournament “Memorial Ignace Corteyn” in Ghent, Belgium.

According to the press service of the National Fencing Federation of Ukraine, the 37-year-old from Odessa confidently won all his bouts in the group stage.

In the round of 32, Yahodka defeated Italy’s Davide Mannucci (8:2); in the round of 16, he beat Germany’s Erik Simon Zeefeld (15:9); in the round of 16, he overcame Turkey’s Kerem Caglayan (15:4); in the quarterfinals, he defeated France’s Martin Thom (15:13); and in the semifinals, he beat another German fencer, Leon Kuzmin (15:11).

In the final, Yahodka narrowly lost to Musa Aimuratov of Uzbekistan (12:15).

For the 2015 European Games champion and four-time European Championship medalist, this is Yahodka’s first medal in an FIE Satellite series competition.
