Azerbaijan is ready to support Ukraine's worthy participation in the Climate Summit COP29 in Baku. This was agreed upon during a meeting between Ukraine's Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Ruslan Strelets and the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Ukraine Seymur Mardaliyev. They discussed advocating for Point 8 of President Volodymyr Zelensky's Peace Formula and a wide range of opportunities for cooperation in environmental conservation.
"This year, the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku, will host the most significant climate event of the year - the UN Climate Change Conference COP29. Therefore, it was extremely important to hear words of support and assurance of full readiness for cooperation from Mr. Mardaliyev," Ruslan Strelets noted.
In the context of implementing Point 8 of the Peace Formula and Azerbaijan's involvement in its implementation, Ruslan Strelets and Seymur Mardaliyev also touched upon the topic of environmentally friendly demining in Ukraine. Azerbaijan is already assisting Ukraine in this regard. In 2023, with the support of the Azerbaijani government, a "Revival" demining machine of Azerbaijani production was delivered to Ukraine.
Ruslan Strelets demonstrated to Mr. Mardaliyev how the unique Ukrainian development, the EcoThreat app, works.
"During the COP28 Climate Summit in Dubai, the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, Mukhtar Babayev, became interested in EcoThreat. This is our common ground. Digitization of environmental data is a priority not only for Ukraine but also for our partners," Ruslan Strelets pointed out.
The head of the Ministry of Environmental Protection extended an invitation to his colleague Mukhtar Babayev to visit Ukraine and see firsthand the environmental consequences of hostilities.
"I am confident that continuing our dialogue in Kyiv will be a significant impetus for further cooperation and preparation of joint initiatives for COP29. I am grateful to Azerbaijan for supporting Ukraine. Thank you to Ambassador Seymur Mardaliyev for the productive dialogue. We are ready for cooperation. Ahead of us is a lot of work on our joint tracks," emphasized Ruslan Strelets.
