Belarus is forming a new Special Operations Forces brigade. The new brigade will be based in the Gomel region, near the border with Ukraine.

This concerns the formation of the new 37th Separate Airborne Assault Guards Brigade of the Belarusian Special Operations Forces. The newly created brigade will be part of the Special Operations Forces.

The official reason given is to "strengthen the southern direction."

According to the commander of the Belarusian Special Operations Forces, Denysenko, the south of Belarus is "the most unstable direction," which directly influenced the decision to create this new combat unit.

"It was decided to strengthen precisely the southern sector. Currently, this is the most, so to speak, unstable direction, which keeps us all on alert," he said.

Thus, Belarus is establishing a mobile strike group in close proximity to the Ukrainian border.

“Currently, the Special Operations Forces include an anti-aircraft missile regiment. We are now in the final stages, and this year a rocket artillery regiment will also be established. It is already about 70% ready. Work is underway on creating a command brigade. Additionally, a decision was made to strengthen the southern sector. Today, this is the most, so to speak, restless direction that keeps us all alert. Therefore, the decision was made to create a separate airborne assault brigade there. And as of now, we have already begun forming this brigade. One of the battalions has already been formed,” said Vadim Denysenko.
