British intelligence analyzed the losses of Russian forces in armored vehicles and assessed Russia's ability to produce new units.
This information is outlined in the British Ministry of Defense's intelligence overview of the Russian-Ukrainian war as of January 29.
The department noted that from February 24, 2022, to January 25, 2024, Russian ground forces likely lost approximately 2,600 main battle tanks and 4,900 other combat armored vehicles in Ukraine. In 2023, the Russian forces lost about 40% less equipment than in 2022.
According to British analysts, this is related to the war taking on a more positional character, and Russian occupation forces spent a significant part of the year on the defensive.
From October 2023, when the Russian army intensified offensive actions in eastern Ukraine, their losses in armored vehicles began to increase. During this period, the losses of Russian armored vehicles grew, and, presumably, Russian ground forces lost up to 365 main battle tanks and 700 combat armored vehicles but only captured insignificant territories.
"However, Russia can probably generate at least 100 MBTs a month and therefore retains the capacity to replace battlefield losses and continue this level of offensive activity for the foreseeable future.," the report stated.
