Canada has still not delivered the NASAMS system to Ukraine, as promised a year ago. The anticipated delivery date remains unknown.
As reported by CTVnews, on January 10, 2023, Ottawa announced its commitment to provide Ukraine with the NASAMS (National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System) air defense system at a cost of $406 million.
However, a year has passed, and one of the companies involved in manufacturing this weaponry stated that they don't even have a corresponding contract. A representative from the Canadian Department of National Defence mentioned that they are working with their American partners to determine the timeline. According to the plan, Canada will pay the full cost to the U.S. government, and the U.S. will then make a Foreign Military Sales agreement directly with Ukraine.
This approach allows Ottawa to avoid seeking additional approval from the U.S. government for sending the system to Ukraine, which is required when selling U.S. military technologies beyond the country's borders.
