Canada, along with its partners in the "Group of Seven" (G7), is implementing additional restrictions on the import of Russian diamonds today, March 1.

According to Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly, this ban complements the restrictions imposed by Canada in December 2023 on the import of diamonds and diamond jewelry from Russia, aimed at indirect imports of Russian diamonds weighing 1 carat and above.

"Canada will continue working with its G7 and other international partners to implement comprehensive controls that ban Russian diamonds from G7 markets. This will provide Canadian consumers with additional assurance that the diamonds that they purchase are not supporting Russia’s illegal war," the statement said.
