Construction has begun in Cherkasy region on Ukraine’s largest potato processing plant.
The announcement was made on Facebook by Dmytro Kysylevskyi, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Economic Development.
“Ukraine currently imports 100% of its potato flour needs. This product is brought from abroad for use in the bakery, confectionery, and meat processing industries, as well as in the production of sauces and instant food mixes. But starting next year, our country will not only meet its own demand but will also become an exporter of potato flour,” Kysylevskyi wrote.
The plant is being built on the territory of the “Biosens” industrial park. The installation of metal structures for the first stage of the production building, covering 6,500 square meters, is currently underway, while the production equipment has already been delivered to the site. Investment in the first phase of the project amounts to UAH 960 million.
"The first stage envisages potato flour production with a capacity of 25,000 tonnes per year. The launch is scheduled for late 2026 or early 2027. Once operational, the plant will allow Ukraine to fully cover its domestic demand for potato flour and begin exporting the product," Kysylevskyi said.
At the same time, the industrial park is expanding its access road and connecting the facility to gas networks with state support. The government has allocated UAH 24.7 million for these works under a co-financing scheme.
A mandatory condition for receiving state funding is the construction of at least 5,000 square meters of industrial space within the industrial park and attracting at least two participating companies.
The second phase of the project, planned for 2027, includes the launch of French fries production with a capacity of 60,000–150,000 tonnes per year. The investment volume is estimated at UAH 2.5 billion. Currently, major retail chains import French fries for Ukrainian restaurants due to the lack of domestic production capacity.
In the long term, the project also includes plans to build a third stage of the plant, a potato storage complex, a facility for processing potato peels into protein and starch, as well as a greenhouse complex with a cogeneration unit.
