The Ukrainian brewery MOVA from Dnipro, in collaboration with the American 18th Ward Brewing in Brooklyn, has released a beer called Ukrainian Golden Ale.

According to MOVA’s press service, the American brewery, together with the Ukrainian one, brewed about 4,000 cans of beer, which can be purchased in the taprooms of 18th Ward Brewing in Brooklyn and New Rochelle, as well as at the Brooklyn bar Umbra. The cans indicate that this is a joint brew with the Ukrainian brewery MOVA.

“To carry out this collaboration, the Dnipro-based company provided the American colleagues with the recipe for the Ukrainian beer variety. Then the brewers jointly selected the closest possible varieties of hops and malt. The original ingredient from Ukraine was coriander, which had to be shipped halfway around the world,” MOVA clarified.

They added that this light beer has a strong balanced base, combining a pronounced hop character with a soft malt foundation. The drink features floral-citrus notes, a light caramel candy sweetness, and the unobtrusive spiciness of Ukrainian coriander.

“It is symbolic that the coriander harvested in Ukraine traveled halfway around the world to the United States to brew Ukrainian beer there. Such collaborations add meaning,” said Bogdan Tochka, co-founder and head brewer of MOVA.

For reference: MOVA is a craft brewery from Dnipro that offers both classic beers and exclusive products, such as non-alcoholic dark beer. The company has already successfully entered the markets of Norway, Denmark, Poland, and the Netherlands and plans to develop its export direction. In 2023, MOVA’s non-alcoholic Dark Beer won a gold medal at the European Beer Star competition.

18th Ward Brewing is an American brewery with locations in Brooklyn and New Rochelle, New York. It has repeatedly won awards at the New York State Craft Beer Competition.

Ukrainian Golden Ale is the first officially recognized Ukrainian beer style, included in the 2023 European Beer Consumers Union guide. Its recipe was created in 2009. According to Mova co-founder Bohdan Tochka, the collaboration with 18th Ward Brewing is part of a global movement to promote the Ukrainian beer style.
