According to a decision by the Cabinet of Ministers, a new orthography will be developed for the Crimean Tatar language using an alphabet based on the Latin script. This information was reported on the website of the Ministry of Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine.

The State Service for Ethnic Policy and Freedom of Conscience and the Ministry of Education and Science will be responsible for developing the new orthography. The scientific work will be carried out by the Institute of Linguistics named after O. O. Potebnya of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, and the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People.

Back in 1992, the Crimean Tatar community adopted the Latin script, and in 1997, it was ratified by the Crimean Parliament (Verkhovna Rada of Crimea). The Latin alphabet consists of 31 letters and is based on the decisions of the Kurultay of the Crimean Tatar People from 1991 to 1993.

The use of the Latin alphabet is expected to facilitate the learning of the Crimean Tatar language for both ethnic Crimean Tatars and others who are interested in the language, as emphasized by the Ministry of Reintegration.

It should be noted that the Latin alphabet for the Crimean Tatar language was officially approved in 2021, and in 2018, the "Crimean Fig" / "Qırım inciri" literary contest was established to promote the dissemination and development of the Crimean Tatar language and literature.
