As a result of Russia's full-scale aggression, carbon dioxide emissions in Ukraine have increased by 180 million tons, stated Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Svitlana Grynchuk at the "Climate and Energy Policy of Ukraine in the Context of EU Accession" conference.

“We are all aiming to reduce emissions, combat energy poverty, and achieve decarbonization goals. At the same time, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, our greenhouse gas emissions due to military actions have increased by 180 million tons of CO₂,” Grynchuk said.

She emphasized that there are aggressor countries that undermine and destroy all progress in climate efforts. Thus, Ukraine's mission, Grynchuk believes, is not only to pursue sustainable transition and recovery goals but also to document environmental crimes.

"Preventing a repeat of the current situation is a task for Ukraine and the entire global community. We will raise these issues at the COP29 conference," Grynchuk added.
