Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Taras Kachka announced the opening of the sixth cluster of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union, titled “External Relations.”
“Today’s decision by Coreper (the Committee of Permanent Representatives of the EU member states) decision to endorse the opening of Cluster 6 "External Relations" is another imp. step in our 🇪🇺 accession negotiations,” Kachka wrote on the social network X on Friday.
He thanked all partners for advancing the enlargement agenda and said that the final formal decision is expected next week, on July 14.
“Cluster 6 is of particular importance in today’s global security environment. The Common Security and Defence Policy, trade, humanitarian assistance, and development cooperation bring Ukraine closer to the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy. We now look forward to the formal decision on July 14,” Kachka wrote.
Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko noted that the decision allows Ukraine to move on to practical work on the accession conditions under a new area of the negotiation process.
“It is important that Ukraine’s level of alignment with EU decisions and statements in the field of foreign and security policy is 98%. This is the assessment provided for the European Commission’s report,” she wrote on Telegram.
According to Svyrydenko, she expects the official opening of the Intergovernmental Conference on July 14.
