A family home called "Dacha" for families with seriously ill children who are undergoing treatment far from their homes has been opened in Kyiv. It is a center where patients' families can live together free of charge during treatment at the National Cancer Institute and "Okhmatdyt."

Over 65 companies, including Ukrainian designers and architects, partnered with this charitable project. The building project and technical supervision were provided by the architectural bureau AIMM, and the interior design was created by Makhno Studio.

The 950-square-meter building features 13 family rooms for accommodation, common areas including a kitchen and dining room, play and educational zones, as well as offices for a psychologist and physical rehabilitation. The furniture for the common areas was designed by the Ukrainian company Elio Home. Additionally, a bomb shelter was built on the "Dacha" premises.

The construction of this space began in 2018 and cost approximately 1.5 million euros, as reported by the "Zaporuka" Foundation. Prior to having its own building, "Dacha" had been renting premises since 2009, where up to February 24, 2022, 1347 children had stayed.

The "Zaporuka" Foundation aims to create an environment where a child's life does not come to a halt but continues even during challenging medical treatments. It provides a family-like atmosphere, favorite games, and the opportunity to make new friends with similar experiences who can understand and support each other in difficult times. New families are soon to move into "Dacha."
