Starting from October, Ukraine will implement an electronic solutions system for medical cannabis, allowing for full traceability from seed to medicinal product. This announcement was made by Health Minister Viktor Lyashko at the eHealth Summit.
Lyashko emphasized that the new system aims to ensure the availability of essential medicinal products for patients, particularly those with cancer or mental health disorders. He noted the stigma associated with innovative medicines and the legislative reforms introduced to address this. The system will provide complete traceability of medical cannabis from cultivation to its final medicinal form.
Currently, no other European country has a similar system. The electronic prescription for cannabis-based medicines will track the movement of these products from the doctor’s prescription to pharmacy dispensing.
In the next three to six months, additional innovations will be introduced in Ukraine's electronic solutions system, including:
- Rehabilitation Aids: Integration with the Ministry of Social Policy to facilitate access to supportive measures and social integration.
- Electronic Medical Records: Implementation of electronic records for inpatient care and laboratory results, allowing coordinated care across specialties and centralizing patient information.
- Medical Examinations for Adoption: Automatic generation of medical assessments needed for adoption, reducing bureaucratic delays.
- Driver’s License Medical Records: Transition from physical to electronic medical certificates for driving licenses, enhancing transparency in the issuance process.
- Medication Tracking: New e-Stock models to trace the journey of each medicine from procurement to distribution, monitoring state-funded medicines.
Other digital health solutions mentioned include an electronic queue for endoprosthesis procedures, ranking for residency distribution, a notification system for cosmetic products, a registry for food additives, a new state register of medicines, a public health information system, a new medical practice licensing registry, and an electronic patient portal available through both the medical information system and Diia app.
