A sculpture by French artist James Colomina has appeared on the facade of the Main Post Office building in Kyiv. The red figure protruding from the wall is depicted painting the Ukrainian trident.
The artist states that the project is aimed at condemning the injustices of the war in Ukraine and expressing support for the Ukrainian people.
In total, five red sculptures will be installed in Kyiv, all dedicated to celebrating Ukraine's Independence Day.
“My work in Ukraine is intended to condemn the injustice of this war and demonstrate my unwavering support for the Ukrainian people who are suffering in this imposed conflict,” the artist said.
In his Instagram, he noted:
"This sculpture aims to condemn the absurdity of war and highlight the bravery of children when they face the harsh, catastrophic situations provoked by others."
James Colomina also presented another work in the capital.
The artist created a sculpture titled "Girl with Sunflowers," symbolizing renewal and hope for Ukraine. The sculpture has been placed on the pedestal of the former monument to Shchors, which was dismantled in December 2023.
James Colomina is a street artist from Toulouse, France. He is often referred to as the "Banksy of sculpture" or a "humanist street artist," as his works frequently comment on a range of social issues — from climate change to the threat of nuclear war — and critique society and politicians.
Through the imagery of an omnipresent child in his works, Colomina exposes the manipulation of naive and honest children by adults.
