The German government has revealed its activities in investigating Russian war crimes in Ukraine.
According to Bild, the Federal Ministry of Justice of Germany has already gathered over 500 pieces of evidence of war crimes in Ukraine and has questioned more than 160 witnesses.
According to Justice Minister Marco Buschmann, if someone knowingly orders the violation of international criminal law, then that government potentially constitutes a war criminal.
"The International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for (Russian President) Putin. I hope and wish that at some point he will have to face trial. I know that it will take a lot of patience for this," he said.
The minister pointed out that if a Russian drone deliberately targets a residential building where only civilians are present, it constitutes a war crime.
"Every photo and every video on mobile phones, for example, can help in the investigation. Those who delete such materials only assist Russian war criminals," emphasized Buschmann.
He added that the German government wants to persuade more victims or witnesses of traumatic experiences among Ukrainians who have fled to Germany to share their experiences with the police.
