Germany warns Ukraine against high hopes for quick delivery of Taurus missiles. A representative of the German government, Steffen Hebestreit, cautioned Ukraine against harboring any expectations of swift deliveries of long-range Taurus missiles.
The statement comes amid Russian air raids in Germany, which prompted new requests for supplying German Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine, reports Der Spiegel.
Norbert Röttgen, a politician from the CDU/CSU party, criticized the federal government once again for its failure to provide Ukraine with additional long-range weapon systems.
The Taurus cruise missiles have a range of over 500 kilometers and could enhance the Ukrainian army's capability to target weapon depots and supply lines on Russian territory. However, there are concerns in the Chancellor's Office that German weaponry might be used for attacks deep within Russian territory.
Hebestreit explained that Ukraine should not entertain any hopes of quick deliveries of Taurus missiles. He added that there is no new status regarding arms deliveries.
Hebestreit also strongly condemned Russia's recent attacks, stating that mass assaults on civilian infrastructure constitute a war crime and are absolutely repugnant.
