Lithuania is working on acquiring short-range air defense systems for Ukraine’s air defense. This was announced by Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda during a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv.

Naušėda stated that Lithuania plans to deliver two tons of 155-mm ammunition to Ukraine through the European Defence Agency’s procurement system, with an additional ten tons expected by December under the Czech Initiative.

"We are also exploring the possibility of purchasing short-range air defense systems for Ukrainian air defense. I hope that within two to three weeks, we will have a positive outcome and can deliver these systems to the Ukrainians as soon as possible,” Nausėda said.

He also noted that Lithuania is investing 10 million euros in the production of long-range weapons and is interested in collaborating on the production of maritime drones.

President Nausėda summarized that Lithuania has provided nearly 1.5 billion euros in support to Ukraine to date, with 647 million euros allocated for military purposes. He also mentioned the country’s commitment to annually spend 0.25% of its GDP on Ukraine’s security and defense, which amounts to around 190 million euros.

Nausėda added that Lithuania continues to mobilize support for Ukraine among allies and urges NATO members to immediately provide long-range missiles, fighter jets, and air defense systems.

“We firmly support efforts to increase ammunition supplies to Ukraine and strengthen air defense. We support allowing long-range strikes on Russian military targets without restrictions,” Nausėda emphasized.
