The psychological drama 'Honeymoon' by director Zhanna Ozirna has been selected for the International Competition programme of the 48th Göteborg Film Festival, which will take place from January 24 to February 2 in Sweden.
'Honeymoon' is a poignant story about intimacy and fears during war. The plot centers on Taras and Olya, a 30-year-old couple who find themselves trapped by both the enemy and their own internal struggles.
The film is produced by the Toy Cinema production company.
"This is the story of my acquaintance, who lives in the suburbs of Kyiv. In the end, it's the story of many of our acquaintances. Cinema became my way of reconnecting with the new reality and, I hope, the beginning of the healing process and shedding the burden of guilt. I felt the need to adapt this story to how I personally live through this war — to the challenges my generation faces now and the choices we are forced to make. To the reevaluation of our life’s value system," said Zhanna Ozírna, the director of the film.
The film was created with the support of La Biennale Di Venezia and was entirely shot in Ukraine, in Kyiv, at the beginning of 2024.
The Göteborg Film Festival, established in 1979, is the largest film festival in Scandinavia and one of the most prestigious film forums in Europe.
