The developments in Ukraine and the continuation of EU assistance in its fight against Russian aggression remain priority issues on the agenda of the European Council meeting scheduled for next week in Brussels.

During a plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg today, Janos Boka, Hungary's minister for European affairs, emphasized that Ukraine is a top priority for the European Council as he represents the rotating Hungarian presidency of the EU.

"Leaders are expected to review the situation on the ground and the ongoing support from the EU. They will assess progress in providing military assistance to Ukraine, based on previous decisions and developments along the front lines," noted Boka.

He added that another key issue for the meeting of European leaders will be the situation in the Middle East, especially considering the grim anniversary of last year's terrorist attack against Israel and the ongoing plight of hostages and victims held by Hamas.

"The war in Gaza has lasted over a year and has already caused a humanitarian catastrophe. The recent escalation of violence in Lebanon and the current tensions with Iran highlight the urgent need for sustainable solutions for security and stability in the region," stated Boka.

In the foreign policy block, the European Council will also discuss developments regarding parliamentary elections in Georgia and the constitutional referendum and presidential elections in Moldova, as well as the situations in Venezuela and Sudan.

Among other issues at the summit, there will be discussions on common approaches to migration policy and ensuring the economic competitiveness of the EU in preparation for the informal European Council meeting in Budapest on November 8.

The European Council meeting will take place on October 17-18 in Brussels, with one of the main topics being the continuation of political, economic, and military support for Ukraine.
