A Danish investor will build a kindergarten and 410 apartments for those who have lost their homes due to the war.

This will be the largest private investment in the city, said acting mayor of Chernihiv, Oleksandr Lomako, speaking about the project to construct seven residential buildings and a kindergarten in Masany, which will be financed by the Danish "Fund for the Reconstruction of Ukraine." On March 12, during a citywide meeting, he announced the results of yesterday's online meeting with the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark to Ukraine, Ole Egbert Mikkelsen, as well as the director of the fund, Stine Ornslund.

"Approximately 20-25 million euros are preliminarily discussed. No one knows the exact figure because only project work will be done this year. I repeat, these are private funds of a Danish company. As of now, both for us and for the whole of Ukraine, this is the largest private investment in reconstruction. I really appreciate the Danish side's position that they decided not to wait until the end of the war, but to start implementing such a project in the border town of Chernihiv, because people cannot afford to wait for years," Lomako said during the meeting.

The agreement for this cooperation was signed by the Chernihiv Municipal Enterprise "Chernihivbudinvest" last week. Today, the Danish investor will take the appropriate step.

"Along with the signed agreement, we will receive a link to the tender documentation. Next week, a tender will be announced for the design of seven buildings. Then, the project will be developed (the designer will also be determined through a transparent tender), followed by a competition to select a developer. All of this is expected to be completed by the end of 2024, and construction is planned to start in February 2025. According to the work plan, the seven buildings and the kindergarten are to be completed by the end of the first half of 2027. I understand that this is a working plan and the timelines may change, but the main thing is to get started," explained the acting mayor.

The plans include the construction of seven modern, environmentally friendly, and energy-efficient buildings with 410 apartments for those who have lost their homes due to the war. Agreements have also been reached to build a kindergarten nearby with 200 spaces.

"During today's meeting, the acting mayor gave a number of instructions aimed at further cooperation with this partner. In particular, the relevant departments and municipal enterprises should communicate as quickly as possible with the Danish side and provide all necessary information. Additionally, all processes should be as transparent as possible, without any hint of potential corruption risks, noted Lomako.

The built apartments will become the property of the city community. They will be distributed among the residents of Chernihiv who have lost their homes due to the barbaric aggression of Russia. It is a great honor for us to work with such a powerful partner and the country of Denmark, said the acting mayor.
