On June 18, in the Harju County Court of Estonia, a verdict was issued against Vyacheslav Morozov, a former professor at Tartu University with Russian citizenship. He was found guilty of actions carried out in the interests and on behalf of a foreign intelligence service, directed against the Republic of Estonia, as reported by Postimees

The court sentenced Morozov to 6 years and 3 months of imprisonment under a less severe charge than espionage, which involves the gathering of confidential information by foreign agents.

Morozov was arrested in early January 2024 and has been in custody since then. For the past 14 years, he had been teaching at Tartu University and held a residence permit in Estonia. Prior to his arrest, he had expressed opposition to Russia's invasion of Ukraine and continued his academic work in Tartu, holding important positions in the fields of political science and international political theories.

According to the investigation, Morozov visited Russia where he transmitted information to his handlers. Following his arrest, the university terminated its collaboration with Morozov.
