President of Latvia Egils Levits, Prime Minister Evika Siliņa, Speaker of the Saeima Daiga Mieriņa, and Foreign Minister Krišjānis Kariņš have called on residents to show solidarity with the people of Ukraine and join the minute of silence on Saturday, February 24, at 9 a.m.

This was reported to the LETA agency by the State Chancellery of Latvia, as reported by Delfi.

According to the statement from the State Chancellery, Russia understands that it cannot defeat Ukraine in fair combat, so it employs various methods of pressure – attacking civilians, bombing cities, kidnapping Ukrainian children, and exerting pressure on Ukraine's international partners, hoping for their war fatigue.

Latvia will continue to provide any assistance until Ukraine achieves complete victory, the statement said.

"Russia will have to return Ukrainian children. The Russian Federation and its leaders will have to be held accountable for aggression and war crimes," said Latvia's top officials.

The statement also expresses respect for Ukrainians who "fearlessly resist the aggressor" and regrets that Ukrainians "continue to perish" in the struggle to defend their country and the future of their children. "Ukrainians are defending peace and security throughout Europe, including Latvia," emphasized Latvian politicians.

Various events in support of Ukraine will take place in Riga on the second anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The central event is the "Together – to Victory" rally, which will start on Saturday near the Freedom Monument at 12:30 p.m.
