In London, a street near the Russian embassy will be renamed Kyiv Road to mark the anniversary of the full-scale invasion.
The section of Bayswater Road, which stretches along the northern edge of Hyde Park, will be named in honor of the capital of Ukraine. The road sign will be installed on February 24, and the nearby Marble Arch will be illuminated in blue and yellow.
"Place names in London have changed over the decades to mark important moments or figures in history, so Kyiv Road is now part of this long-standing tradition," says Westminster Council Chairman Adam Huth.
This is part of the Ukraine Street campaign organized by the Be–it Agency. The goal is to call on residents to change the names of streets near the embassies and consulates of the aggressor country.
In addition to Great Britain, 14 countries have already taken part, and about 20 streets and squares have been renamed in honor of Ukraine. These are the streets of the Czech Republic, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Albania, Slovakia, Norway, Canada, Hungary, Estonia, Sweden, France, Iceland, Luxembourg, and the USA.
"The need to walk the "streets of Ukraine" to their embassies around the world will be a great daily reminder to Russian representatives about Ukraine's sovereignty," the project's initiators believe.
The day before, on February 23, the street near the Russian embassy in London was painted in the colors of the Ukrainian flag. Activist group Led by Donkeys said the protest was organized to remind Russia of Ukraine's independence as a sovereign state ahead of the anniversary of the full-scale invasion.
