In October 2024, there were 323 recorded instances of Russian forces using specialized munitions with hazardous chemical substances against Ukraine's Defense Forces, according to the Communications Department of the Support Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Facebook.
"Alongside conventional weapons, the enemy uses munitions loaded with dangerous chemicals, such as K-51 and RG-VO, which are riot control agents banned for wartime use. A significant portion of these munitions contains unknown hazardous chemical compounds," the statement said. These instances were documented by units of the Radiation, Chemical, and Biological Reconnaissance Support Forces of Ukraine.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, reconnaissance units have directly recorded the use of hazardous chemicals on the battlefield. Since February 2023, Russian forces' use of these substances has become systematic, with 4,613 cases of chemical-laden munitions recorded.
"By doing this, Russia grossly violates the rules of warfare, disregarding norms and obligations under the Chemical Weapons Convention on the prohibition of developing, producing, stockpiling, and using chemical weapons and on their destruction," the command stressed.
