Investment in the development of waste management infrastructure in Ukraine has become a key topic of discussion between Ukraine’s Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Ruslan Strilets, German Ambassador to Ukraine Martin Jäger, and leaders of investment companies with over 45 years of experience in waste management. These companies have been involved in building waste management infrastructure in Austria, Turkey, Germany, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, and Egypt.
Ruslan Strilets emphasized that Austria’s experience is considered one of the most successful in the EU in the field of waste management, showcasing that waste management infrastructure can be environmentally friendly.
“I heard from them a real readiness to invest in the development of waste management infrastructure in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. The cluster will consist of 5 plants that will collectively process over 470,000 tons of waste per year. The project is worth over €155 million. There is a real willingness and interest from local communities, so the project is progressing actively. It is important that investors come with an understanding of how it should work in a given area and propose specific solutions. This means that the Ministry of Environmental Protection has done tremendous work over the past year and a half to prepare regions for the reform and attract investment in waste management infrastructure,” Strilets noted.
The Minister called on other regions to join in developing the waste management system in Ukraine.
“I am confident that Ivano-Frankivsk, Poltava, Odessa, Kyiv, and Zakarpattia will set good examples for other regions, and they will follow suit. Ukraine will finally receive more than 200 new modern European-standard plants. I thank the investors for the productive meeting and German Ambassador Martin Jäger for his constant support of Ukraine,” added Ruslan Strilets.
