Russia is waging hybrid warfare against Italy, employing disinformation, cyberattacks, and illegal migration.
Italian intelligence services made this statement in their annual report to parliament, as reported by ANSA.
"Russia is the most active player in hybrid campaigns against Italy and the entire West. Espionage, cyberattacks, and the use of migration flows for destabilization purposes are the arsenal being utilized," the Italian intelligence report states.
In particular, Russia seeks to influence the upcoming elections for the European Parliament scheduled for June 6-9, 2024.
It is noted that Russian disinformation was recently detected regarding protests by farmers against the agricultural policy of the European Union.
