Italy has allocated €3.5 million in emergency funding to support Ukraine's agricultural sector, with assistance focused on farmers in Odessa region.

Italian Ambassador to Ukraine Carlo Formosa signed the funding agreement with Shakhnoza Muminova, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Representative in Ukraine, in the presence of Denys Bashlyk, Ukraine's First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food.

The initiative, financed by the Italian government through the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) and implemented by FAO, aims to protect harvests, reduce post-harvest losses and help farmers maintain production ahead of the 2027 agricultural season.

The programme includes the distribution of 800 flexible grain storage systems, each capable of holding approximately 200 tonnes. With a combined nominal capacity of 160,000 tonnes, the storage facilities will benefit around 250 agricultural producers.

A second component provides 1,145 vouchers worth $2,000 each to small and medium-sized farmers in Odessa region.

The vouchers will allow farmers to purchase agricultural inputs needed for the 2027 production cycle, helping sustain farming operations amid the ongoing war.
