The German-French defense consortium KNDS (Krauss-Maffei Wegmann and Nexter Defense Systems) has announced plans to deliver the first wheeled self-propelled howitzers, RCH 155, to Ukraine no earlier than April 2025.
In an interview with the publication Hartpunkt, KNDS Deutschland CEO Ralf Ketzel discussed the progress of developing the new 155-mm self-propelled howitzer and its relevance for the Bundeswehr. He confirmed that the consortium is currently producing howitzers for Ukraine and other international orders.
Ketzel emphasized that the delivery of the RCH 155 to Ukraine is part of a broader strategy to enhance the capabilities of Ukrainian forces amid the ongoing conflict. The RCH 155 features advanced technology and design aimed at increasing operational effectiveness on the battlefield.
As Ukraine continues to seek military support from its allies, this delivery represents a significant step in bolstering its artillery capabilities, aligning with ongoing efforts to strengthen defense partnerships between Ukraine and European nations.
“Yes, we are producing wheeled howitzers for Ukraine and for another international client. We hope to receive a contract for the Bundeswehr soon. Initially, it will be around 80 units. We will deliver the first systems to Ukraine in April of next year,” he stated.
