Korean companies have proposed a new asphalt paving technology for Ukraine, already patented in South Korea, according to the State Agency for Restoration.
Sergii Sukhomlyn, the head of the agency, discussed collaboration in the road construction sector with representatives of POSCO International Corporation and SG.
POSCO, South Korea’s largest steelmaking company, expressed its interest in Ukraine’s reconstruction back in 2023.
“This technology has been in use in South Korea for over 10 years and has proven its efficiency. It reduces road noise, dust, and surface damage while being significantly cheaper. The Restoration Agency is keen on this cooperation,” said Sukhomlyn.
The method replaces only the top layer of pavement, using slag instead of crushed stone.
SG is currently conducting calculations and preparing for formula certification.
Following these steps, a trial section of a Ukrainian road will be paved using this technology, which is expected to happen by spring, according to the agency.
