The Ukrainian capital has become the only European city to make it to the top of the “Rising Stars” ranking by Dealroom.co, a platform specializing in startup ecosystem analysis.

As reported by Euronews, citing Dealroom.co’s ranking, Kyiv has become Europe’s leading “Rising Star” thanks to its rapidly developing tech environment, with more than 1,000 tech companies currently based in the city.

The number of tech professionals in Ukraine has grown from 75,000 in 2014 to over 300,000 in 2023.

Other European cities featured in the “Rising Stars” category include Vilnius, Zagreb, Prague, Warsaw, and Athens. Globally, Lagos (Nigeria) tops the list, having produced five unicorn companies.

It’s worth noting that the overall ranking of the world’s tech capitals looks somewhat different. Among European cities, only Paris and London are included in the global top 10, with most of the top positions held by U.S. cities. This year’s Global Startup Ecosystem Index identifies Paris as the leading tech hub in Europe.

The Dealroom.co report analyzed tech talent, innovation, and investment across 288 cities and 69 countries.
