Latvia intends to deport around 800 Russians who do not have the right to stay in the country. These Russian citizens did not apply for permanent or temporary residence.

This was stated by Madara Puke, a representative of the management, in an interview with TV3 channel, as reported by Suspilne.

The Latvian Migration Department has provided the Border Guard Service with data on about 800 Russians who do not have the right to stay in Latvia.

"At the moment, 800 individuals have not obtained the right to stay in Latvia. They have not applied for either permanent or temporary residence. We have provided information about these individuals to the State Border Guard Service for further verification. In the coming weeks, it will be clear whether these people are still in Latvia. If they are, orders for departure for 30 days will be issued," said Puke.

She noted that Russian citizens who have not passed the Latvian language exam could apply for temporary residence for two years, after which they would have to retake the language exam under the threat of deportation.

The Latvian government has extended restrictions on the entry of citizens of the Russian Federation into the country for a year, until March 4, 2025.
