The Latvian government has made a decision to transfer another batch of cars confiscated from drunk drivers to Ukraine.

This information was reported by Delfi.

As reported, Latvia will transfer to Ukraine a batch of 14 cars, with a total market value of over 100 thousand euros.

In particular, nine cars are intended for military units of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the communal medical enterprise in Izyum district of Kharkiv region, the Arbuzyne village council in Mykolaiv region, the military unit of the National Guard, the Kamianets-Podilskyi district council in Khmelnytskyi region, and the Kytayhorod village council in Khmelnytskyi region.

The cars will be transported from Latvia to Ukraine using the so-called "Twitter convoy."

Latvia is one of the most active allies of Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion. It provides military and political assistance to our country.

In February 2023, the Latvian Saeima unanimously adopted changes to the law on supporting the civilian population of Ukraine, allowing the free transfer of vehicles confiscated by the state to the ownership of the Ukrainian government.

This provided a way to transfer to Ukraine those vehicles that were confiscated in Latvia from drivers found to be driving under the influence of alcohol.

Additionally, the Latvian Saeima permitted the transfer of all movable property, including automobiles, owned by the parliament, to Ukraine.

As of mid-December 2023, Latvia has already sent 271 vehicles confiscated from intoxicated drivers to Ukraine. The total value of confiscated cars is estimated at almost 1 million euros.
